Not separate, but certainly unequal
The literature has usually regarded street‐level bureaucrats (SLBs) as relatively privileged bureaucrats, neglecting an important sub‐group of these civil servants: low‐status SLBs. This study analyses how street-level bureaucrats’ categorisation of citizens is embedded within conceptual systems. We observe the process of categorisation as embedded in cultural schemata used by street-level bureaucrats. We provided vignettes to 40 teachers in São Paulo public schools to observe how they categorise similar behaviours of students within different social contexts. How social network role, geographical context and territorial mobility mediate the adoption of transgressive styles in the jazz field
We explore the relationship between network role, territorial location and the adoption of transgressive styles on jazz music between 1950 and 1969. Our study contributes to the literature on the role of networks in the adoption of innovations, employing the following analytic strategies: (1) we use regular equivalence to identify clusters hierarchically related to each other; (2) classify these clusters into role types; (3) we determine the exte…
Shifts in control disciplines and rescaling as a response to network governance failure
I suggest that rescaling might be a response to network failure. In order to describe a network’s modes of governance, I borrow the idea of ‘disciplines of control’. This framework is applied to the Brazil Grows Together (BCJ) case, a policy aimed at pregnant women and early childhood care in a state in Brazil. I show that constituency pressures at state level led to rescaling, and higher selectiveness. Subsequently, network managers steered vert…

Um "campo organizacional" pode ser descrito como uma rede social de atores que estão envolvidos no monitoramento recíproco.
