L’occupation aksumite du site de de Čärqos Kwiḥa (Enderta, Tigray, Éthiopie)
The existence of an Aksumite site on the tell of Čärqos Kwiḥa, long suspected due to the presence of monolithic pillars near the top of the hill, was confirmed in 2015 by the study of ceramic furniture collected on the surface. Surveys and excavations carried out on the site in 2018 and 2019 have provided new information on its organisation and chronology of occupation. Excavation reveals a pre-Castle settlement
In the inner courtyard of Belvoir Castle, the excavation uncovered structures that predate the monumental building. It is a stone house with two rooms fitted with benches and a paved floor. This primitive building can be compared to the remains of the rural settlement sold by the Frank Ives Velos to the Hospitallers in 1168

Recent archaeological investigations in eastern Tigray, Ethiopia, have revealed extensive evidence for medieval Muslim communities. Although the settlement of Muslims near modern Kwiha was previously attested by epigraphic evidence, its exact location remained unknown.
