  • The Mazovian Centre of Metallurgy

Open Access•Adam Cieśliński, Marek Baczewski et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2025•Referencias: 2

The Terra Ferrifera project investigates the landscape and environmental conditions of mass iron production in one of the oldest iron production centres in central Europe: Mazovia, Poland (fourth century BC–fourth century AD). Spatial analyses, settlement pattern studies, prospection, excavation and archaeobotanical analyses provide insights into one of its microregions

  • Plant macro-remains preserved in slag-pit furnaces from the Iron-Age settlement in the Mazovian Centre of Metallurgy

  • Stay away or stay in? Exploring settlement decisions of economic migrants and war refugees from Ukraine in the structural approach framework

    Open Access•Olena Shelest-Szumilas, Marcin Woźniak•ARTICLE•International Migration•2024•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 7

A sound understanding of immigrants' settlement intentions and the factors that influence them is crucial for developing successful integration policies and predicting the economic performance of the host country. It can also help us better comprehend migration patterns and individual decisions. Drawing upon a structural approach, we examined selected phenomena such as a skills mismatch and perceived discrimination and explored how they influence…

  • The Fears and Hopes of Ukrainian Migrant Workers in Poland in the Pandemic Era

    Open Access•Olena Shelest-Szumilas, Marcin Woźniak•ARTICLE•Journal of International…•2023

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many immigrants found themselves in extremely unstable situations. The recent contributions show that employment decline in the first several months of the lockdown was higher for migrant workers than for natives. At the same time, migrants were less likely to find new employment in the recovery months. Such circumstances may result in an increased level of anxiety about one's economic situation. On the other hand, a…

  • Milanówek/Falęcin – a settlement of iron-smelters from the Late Antiquity

    Open Access•Marcin Woźniak•ARTICLE•Archeologické rozhledy•2018

The settlement at Milanówek/Falęcin is a part of large centre of iron production of the Przeworsk Culture, dating from the Late Pre-Roman and Roman Periods, and located in the western Masovia (central Poland). The site was discovered in the 1960s during surface surveys, and its area is estimated to 9–12 hectares. Over time, various non destructive archaeological methods have been employed at the site (e.g. aerial photography, geomagnetic surveys,…

  • Geležinis kabutis-varpelis iš Wielbarko kultūros kapinyno Kozłówko vietovėje šiaurinėje Mazovijoje

    Open Access•Marcin Woźniak•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Lituana•2013

Kozłόwko kapinyno Nidzicos paviete (seniau – Klein Koslau, Kreis Neidenburg) tyrimų metu aptiktas nedidelis kabutis-varpelis. Jis rastas XXXI kape, datuotame periodu C3–D (1 pav.). Pagal A. Kokowskio klasifikaciją varpelis priklauso tipui Ic.

  • Y-chromosome variation in Tajiks and Iranians

Open Access•B А Malyarchuk, Miroslava Derenko et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2012

Despite the marked similarities between Y-chromosome gene pools of Iranian-speaking populations, there are differences between them, defined by many factors, including geographic and linguistic relationships

  • The Y-Chromosome C3* Star-Cluster Attributed to Genghis Khan’s Descendants Is Present at High Frequency in the Kerey Clan from Kazakhstan

    Serikbai Abilev, С К Абилев et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2012

To verify the possibility that the Y-chromosome C3* star-cluster attributed to Genghis Khan and his patrilineal descendants is relatively frequent in the Kereys, who are the dominant clan in Kazakhstan and in Central Asia as a whole, polymorphism of the Y-chromosome was studied in Kazakhs, represented mostly by members of the Kerey clan. The Kereys showed the highest frequency (76.5%) of individuals carrying the Y-chromosome variant known as C3* …

  • Similarities and distinctions in Y chromosome gene pool of Western Slavs

    Open Access•Marcin Woźniak, B А Malyarchuk et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2010•Referencias: 20

Analysis of Y chromosome Y‐STRs has proven to be a useful tool in the field of population genetics, especially in the case of closely related populations. We collected DNA samples from 169 males of Czech origin, 80 males of Slovakian origin, and 142 males dwelling Northern Poland. We performed Y‐STR analysis of 12 loci in the samples collected (PowerPlex Y system from Promega) and compared the Y chromosome haplotype frequencies between the popula…

  • Low Variability of the Polg (CAG) n Repeat in North Eurasian Populations

    B А Malyarchuk, Boris A Malyarchuk et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2005•Referencias: 1

We investigated the frequency of different repeat-length alleles of the trinucleotide CAG microsatellite repeat in the coding sequence of the nuclear gene for the catalytic subunit of mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma (POLG) in 12 ethnic groups from northern Eurasia. The population sample consisted of 1,330 individuals from 3 large geographic areas: Europe, Southwest Asia, and Siberia/East Asia. We found that the 10-repeat allele of the POLG gen…
