Renin, Cortisol, and Aldosterone During Transcendental Meditation
The effects of transcendental meditation (TM) on plasma renin activity (PRA) and plasma concentrations of aldosterone, cortisol, and lactate were studied by measuring these variables before, during, and after 20--30 min of meditation. The effects of several types of acute psychosocial stimuli on plasma renin activity (PRA) were studied in normotensive healthy subjects. Puzzle-solving produced an increase in blood pressure but no significant change in PRA, although two of seven subjects did respond with large increases in PRA.
