  • Future rainfall and temperature changes in Brazil under global warming levels of 1.5oC, 2oC and 4oC

Open Access•Diego Jatobá dos Santos, George Ulguim Pedra et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability in Debate•2020

The present study analyzes the impacts of global warming of 1.5oC, 2oC, and 4oC above pre-industrial levels in the Brazilian territory. Climate change projected among the different global warming levels has been analyzed for rainfall, temperature and extreme climate indices. The projections are derived from the global climate model HadGEM3-A, from the High-End cLimate Impacts and eXtremes (HELIX) international project, from the United Kingdom, fo…

  • Simulation of the Holocene climate over South America and impacts on the vegetation

    Open Access•Jelena Maksic, Marília Harumi Shimizu et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2018•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 8

We provide a comprehensive analysis of the Holocene climate and vegetation changes over South America through numerical simulations. Holocene climate for several periods (8 ka, 6 ka, 4 ka, 2 ka, and present) were simulated by an atmospheric general circulation model, forced with orbital parameters, CO 2 concentrations, and sea surface temperature (SST), while the analysis of the biome distributions was made with a potential vegetation model (PVM)…

  • Land-use and climate change risks in the Amazon and the need of a novel sustainable development paradigm

Open Access•Carlos A Nobre, Gilvan Sampaio et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2016

Significance The Amazonian tropical forests have been disappearing at a fast rate in the last 50 y due to deforestation to open areas for agriculture, posing high risks of irreversible changes to biodiversity and ecosystems. Climate change poses additional risks to the stability of the forests. Studies suggest “tipping points” not to be transgressed: 4° C of global warming or 40% of total deforested area. The regional development debate has focus…

  • A seca e a crise hídrica de 2014-2015 em São Paulo

    Open Access•José Antônio Marengo, Carlos A Nobre et al.•ARTICLE•Revista USP•2015•Citada por: 6

During most of the rainy season in 2014, the Southeast of Brazil - including the Cantareira reservoir system - received below-normal rainfall. The main cause leading to that heavy lack of rain was an intense, persistent and anomalous highpressure system blocking moisture flow from the Amazon and the development and passage of cold front systems and the South Atlantic Convergence Zone, which are responsible for rainfall in this region during summe…

Open Access•Gilvan Sampaio, Pedro Leite Da Silva Dias•ARTICLE•Revista USP•2014

  • On the associations between Hydrometeorological conditions in Amazonia and the extremes of the Southern Oscillation
