This study explores language ideologies within a multilingual tutoring program. We analyze the perspectives of multilingual university-students (n = 49) who were trained as tutors and paired with high school-aged multilingual learners. In this essay, we consider recent narratives in the science of brain development under poverty in relation to the older idea of the culture of poverty. We argue that in theorizing poor parenting and deficient linguistic stimulation as the primary pathways of influence through which poverty exerts its damaging effects on the brain, brain science builds on and offers new evidence for the supposed cultural deficits of those in poverty even as anthro…

This article examines the ways that a group of middle-school-aged Hispanic boys appropriated, deployed, and mobilized racial identities to accomplish specific social purposes in the context of an out-of-school educational equity program. Human subsistence strategy in the Ordos Plateau, Inner Mongolia, China, during the Qin and Han dynasties
This article aims to reveal the subsistence economy of the Qin and Han empires and why they continued to advance northward to defeat the Huns (Xiongnu 匈奴) and other grassland peoples in the Ordos Plateau.
