The aim of the present article is to discuss contextual and analytic qualities of research methods. The arguments are specified in relation to research on teaching. A specific investigation is used as an example to illustrate the general methodological approach. The following is a report on a research project designed to study the proces, of reification in modern society and to offer some possible solutions to its effects. The analysis and discussion presented is based on a case study of a trade-union initiated programme of industrial democracy in a Swedish factory.'
