Sídelní síť mikroregionu a ohrazení typu dlouhých mohyl na východě středních Čech / The Funnel Beaker Cultur…
The study analyses the inventory of Funnel Beaker culture finds made during excavations along the route of the Kolín bypass road in 2008–2010. Features from this period were captured at a total of six sites situated along the entire section of the route. Three sites are of a broader, superregional importance. The remains of two long barrow-type enclosures and a sacrifice pit with a Moltzow-type beaker were investigated on area I-9 at the northern…
Air-Surveyed Cropmarks of Early Iron Age Heritage in Central Europe—Integrating Remotely Detected Data and Excavated Evidence
This paper aims to present the potential of observations of the Earth’s surface by means of remote sensing (survey), specifically via direct (active) visual prospection from low altitude to identify and map small components (such as postholes) of archaeological contexts, namely aboveground post-built structures dated to the Early Iron Age (appr. 800–380 B.C.). This work gives an example of archaeological data on buried settlement constructions id…
Scapulae and phalanges as grave goods
How were the ditches filled? Sedimentological and micromorphological classification of formation processes within graben-like archaeological objects
How Were Neolithic Ditches Filled In? Deposition Study of Two Enclosures from Bohemia
The aim of this study is to analyse the correlation between finds and ditches, the duration of ditch fills, and the manner of the demise of Late Neolithic rondels (Kreisgrabenanlagen) in the Czech Republic. Two comparable long-term projects are discussed here: Kolín (central Bohemia) and Vchynice (north-west Bohemia). Qualitative, quantitative, and spatial analyses of the different categories of finds (pottery fragments, lithics, daub, and faunal…
Micromorphological Evidence of Neolithic Rondel-like Ditch Infillings. Case Studies from Těšetice-Kyjovice and Kolín, Czech Republic
This case study discusses the formation processes which conceivably took place during the formation of the infilling of Neolithic rondel ditches. These processes were studied not only from a sedimentological point of view but primarily by means of a micromorphological approach which allowed us to distinguish the synsedimentary and postsedimentary processes more precisely and the formation of textural features macroscopically visible in the sectio…
The new insights into the subsistence and early farming from neolithic settlements in central Europe
The archaeozoological evidence from two Neolithic settlements occupied in the periods of the Linear Pottery Culture (LBK) and the Stroke Pottery Culture (SBK) has provided new insights into the way of life of early farmers in the Czech Republic. Though LBK and SBK sites are abundant, only isolated studies allow one to reconstruct stockbreeding practiceson the basis of archaeozoological and isotopic data. Our results confirm that livestock provide…
