  • The evolution of k-shell in syndication networks reveals financial performance of venture capital institutions

  • Measuring social response to different journalistic techniques on Facebook

Open Access•Ana Lucía Schmidt, Antonio Peruzzi et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2020

Recent studies have shown that online users tend to select information that adheres to their system of beliefs, ignore information that does not, and join groups that share a common narrative. This information environment can elicit tribalism instead of informed debate, especially when issues are controversial. Algorithmic solutions, fact-checking initiatives, and many other approaches have shown limitations in dealing with this phenomenon, and h…

  • Understanding interurban networks from a multiplexity perspective

  • Realistic modelling of information spread using peer-to-peer diffusion patterns

    Open Access•Bin Zhou, Sen Pei et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2020•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 52

  • Regional surname affinity

Open Access•Yongbin Shi, Le Li et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2019•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 49

OBJECTIVE: We investigate surname affinities among areas of modern-day China, by constructing a spatial network, and making community detection. It reports a geographical genealogy of the Chinese population that is result of population origins, historical migrations, and societal evolutions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We acquire data from the census records supplied by China's National Citizen Identity Information System, including the surname and re…

  • Anatomy of news consumption on Facebook

Open Access•Ana Lucía Schmidt, Fabiana Zollo et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2017

Significance Social media heavily changed the way we get informed and shape our opinions. Users’ polarization seems to dominate news consumption on Facebook. Through a massive analysis on 920 news outlets and 376 million users, we explore the anatomy of news consumption on Facebook on a global scale. We show that users tend to confine their attention on a limited set of pages, thus determining a sharp community structure among news outlets. Furth…

  • The science of science

Open Access•An Zeng, Zhesi Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Physics Reports•2017

The science of science (SOS) is a rapidly developing field which aims to understand, quantify and predict scientific research and the resulting outcomes. The problem is essentially related to almost all scientific disciplines and thus has attracted attention of scholars from different backgrounds. Progress on SOS will lead to better solutions for many challenging issues, ranging from the selection of candidate faculty members by a university to t…

  • Reputation and impact in academic careers

Open Access•Amanda M Petersen, Alexander Michael Petersen et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2014

Significance Over a scientist’s career, a reputation is developed, a standing within a research community, based largely upon the quantity and quality of his/her publications. Here, we develop a framework for quantifying the influence author reputation has on a publication’s future impact. We find author reputation plays a key role in driving a paper’s citation count early in its citation life cycle, before a tipping point, after which reputation…

  • Catastrophic cascade of failures in interdependent networks

Open Access•Sergey V Buldyrev, Roni Parshani et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2010

  • Identification of influential spreaders in complex networks

    Open Access•Maksim Kitsak, Lazaros K Gallos et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Physics•2010

  • Laws of population growth

Open Access•Hernán D Rozenfeld, Diego Rybski et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2008

An important issue in the study of cities is defining a metropolitan area, because different definitions affect conclusions regarding the statistical distribution of urban activity. A commonly employed method of defining a metropolitan area is the Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), based on rules attempting to capture the notion of city as a functional economic region, and it is performed by using experience. The construction of MSAs is a tim…

  • Classes of small-world networks

    Open Access•Luís A N Amaral, Antonio Scala et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2000

We study the statistical properties of a variety of diverse real-world networks. We present evidence of the occurrence of three classes of small-world networks: ( a ) scale-free networks, characterized by a vertex connectivity distribution that decays as a power law; ( b ) broad-scale networks, characterized by a connectivity distribution that has a power law regime followed by a sharp cutoff; and ( c ) single-scale networks, characterized by a c…
