  • Association between the ownership of home-based records and continuous, quality maternal and child health service utilisation

Open Access•Akiko Saito, Megumi Kondo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2026

Background: The continuity and quality of maternal and child health (MCH) services represent significant challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Home-based records (HBRs), including the integrated Maternal and Child Health Handbook (MCHHB), may support consistent service usage and improved care quality. We aimed to evaluate the association between HBRs and continued quality MCH care, identifying differences in associations between…

  • Posttraumatic Growth as a Process Beginning Before Bereavement

Open Access•Megumi Kondo, Yukihiro Sakaguchi et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2023

Calhoun and Tedeschi's growth model focuses on cognitive processing after bereavement but it does not show the change in life narrative from beforehand. Our qualitative study aimed to clarify bereaved family growth and revealed new perspectives on posttraumatic growth (PTG), including that the PTG process involves a pre-bereavement experience and is not limited to positive psychological changes.Based on the two new perspectives, a discussion of P…

  • Growth Experience Bereaved of a Spouse by Cancer

Open Access•Megumi Kondo, Tomoki Kihira et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2023

The grief experienced by bereaved families can lead to positive changes, and its relevance to the emerging concept of posttraumatic growth has been explored. However, studies on survivors bereaved of a spouse by cancer are scarce; consequently, the nature of growth remains poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the growth experiences of survivors bereaved of a spouse by cancer. Based on Merleau-Ponty's theory of the body, we phenomenologi…

  • Does the increase in Caesarian-section rates contribute to the recent debrachycephalizaion in Japan

    Open Access•Makiko Kouchi, Yoko Nakahara et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2019•Referencias: 12

  • Cumulative incidence, distribution, and determinants of catastrophic health expenditure in Nepal

Open Access•Mamata Ghimire, Rakesh Ayer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2018

This study identified a high cumulative incidence of CHE. CHE was disproportionately concentrated in the poor households and households located in the far-western region. Policy-makers should focus on prioritizing households vulnerable to CHE. Interventions to reduce economic burden of out-of-pocket healthcare payment are imperative to lower incidences of CHE among those households. Improving literacy rate might also be useful in order to lower C…

  • Marine Reservoir Effects Deduced from 14 C Dates on Pottery Residues, Bones, and Molluskan Shells from the Hamanaka 2 Archaeological Site, Rebun Island, Hokkaido, Japan

Open Access•Yoshiki Miyata, Akiko Horiuchi et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2016•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 40

This article investigates the marine reservoir effects from apparent age differences among molluskan shells, birds, and sea mammals from the Hamanaka 2 archaeological site, Rebun Island, Japan, which was occupied during the latter half of the Late Jomon period (1300−1200 cal BC). The radiocarbon ages were younger in the order of charred wood 14 C yr. ΔR values of bone collagen for Alcidae (a family of seabirds) and Japanese sea lion were 289 and …

    Open Access•Shuji Matsu’ura, Megumi Kondo•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2010•Citada por: 19•Referencias: 9

A series of human fossils, the so-called ‘Minatogawa Man’ material, unearthed from the fissure site at the Minatogawa limestone quarry on Okinawa Island, is well known as the best preserved Pleistocene human remains in Japan. Another series of ‘Upper Minatogawa’ human remains was also recovered from the same fissure site. Although the Upper Minatogawa series was supposed to be derived from higher horizons than the Minatogawa series, and this supp…

  • Mortality profiles of late Pleistocene deer remains of Okinawa Island

    Open Access•Mugino O Kubo, Masaki Fujita et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2010•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 3

In the present study, we estimated age at death of extinct deer (Cervus astylodon) excavated from two Late Pleistocene sites in Okinawa Island (the Hananda-Gama Cave and Yamashita-cho Cave I sites) from degree of molar wear. This was done using a regression equation of extant sika deer of known age, and deriving an age estimation equation based on M3 crown height applicable to fossil specimens. We then reconstructed mortality profiles using 45 an…

  • Inter-generation Differences in Cephalic Measurements

Open Access•Makiko Kouchi, Megumi Kondo et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2006

  • Dating of the Hamakita human remains from Japan

  • First discovery of the ancient dingo‐type dog in Polynesia (Pukapuka, Cook Islands)

    Open Access•Nobuo Shigehara, Shuji Matsu’ura et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993

A Dingo‐type dog skeleton was excavated in Pukapuka Island of the Cook Islands with an estimated age of about 350 years. Luomala (1960) suggested that an investigation of the breed of Polynesian dogs would provide clues to the history of migration of the Polynesians, who domesticated the dogs. The Pukapuka dog skeleton is morphologically similar to the dingo and suggests some racial or economical interchange among Australia and Polynesian islands…
