    Open Access•Keely Cheslack-Postava, Yael M Cycowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2024

Family history (FH+) of substance use disorder (SUD) is an established risk factor for offspring SUD. The extent to which offspring psychological traits or the family environment, each of which may be relevant to familial transmission of SUD risk, vary by FH+ in socioeconomically disadvantaged populations is less clear. We compared the family/social environmental and psychological characteristics of 73 FH+ and 69 FH- youth ages 12-16, from a stud…

  • Lifetime and five-year prevalence of homelessness in the United States

Bruce G Link, Jo C Phelan et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Orthopsychiatry•1995

A 1990 household-based telephone survey of 1,507 people was followed up by surveying a subsample of those interviewed for the initial report. Results showed very high prevalence figures for homelessness, quite close to those found in the earlier survey. Moreover, using explicit and stringent definitions of literal homelessness and doubling up, most periods of homelessness were found to last for more than one month and, particularly with regard to…
