  • To Resist the Gravity of Whiteness

    Kevin P Considine•CHAPTER•Towards a Critical White Theology•2025

This article investigates the possibility of communicating racialized suffering in meaningful and transformative ways among the triracial hierarchy now present in the U.S. The author argues that a theological tool, an analogia vulneris (analogy of the wound), may assist us to resist the gravity of the abyss of Whiteness into which we are drawn. The author suggests that the Catholic principle of analogical speech about God may be reoriented to ena…

  • Han

    Kevin P Considine•ARTICLE•Interreligious Studies and…•2023

    Open Access•Kevin P Considine•ARTICLE•Open Theology•2016

This essay investigates the power and limits of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s theology of revolutionary love through a dialogue with Kim Chi-Ha. I will argue that King’s theology of revolutionary love may be revitalized within a globalized context through a dialogue with Kim’s philosophy of dan, that includes an “agonized violence of love”, in order to offer a continuing praxis of love of enemy and love of neighbor, salvation for sinner and sinned-ag…

  • A "Collective Black" Liberation in the Face of "Honorary White" Racism? A Growing Edge for U.S. Black Liberation Theologies

    Kevin P Considine, Kevin Considine•ARTICLE•Black Theology•2010

James H. Cone argues that the liberation of African Americans from the scourge of white racism must be at the foundation of any true Christian theology in the U.S. This essay investigates what this might mean when the racial structure within the U.S. is changing. As sociologist Eduardo Bonilla-Silva points out, the paradigm is now comprised of three racial strata—"whites," "honorary whites," and "collective Blacks"—and exhibits a "color blind rac…
