Seasonality of the Upper Paleolithic Byki sites
This paper is the first to bring together and present all available data related to the probable season of human occupation of the Upper Palaeolithic Byki sites in the Kursk Seim River area between 22 and 18 thousand calibrated years ago. Animal bones with impact holes from the Upper Paleolithic sites of Byki
The work is focused on the analysis of two holes of impact origin on the tubular bones of ungulates from the Upper Paleolithic sites of Byki on the Seim River. The materials of the sites belong to the Bykovskaya archaeological culture of hunters on ungulates and small fur animals. The dating of the sites is about 20-19 kur BP. This paper demonstrates the possibilities of isotope methods and the prospects of their application for analyses of archaeological materials. Early Upper Paleolithic in Eastern Europe and Implications for the Dispersal of Modern Humans
Radiocarbon and optically stimulated luminescence dating and magnetic stratigraphy indicate Upper Paleolithic occupation—probably representing modern humans—at archaeological sites on the Don River in Russia 45,000 to 42,000 years ago.
