Trends and social inequalities in self-reported health and activity limitations in France between 2017 and 2021
The previously observed deterioration of the SRH and GALI continued in France between 2017 and 2021, with narrowing socio-territorial gradients of inequalities. The impact of successive social and health crises on the poor evolution of self-reported health and activity limitations warrants further investigation over time and across locations using complementary and possibly more detailed indicators

Alteration in perceived health status of those aged 55 to 65 between 2010 and 2017 in France
This study confirms that the generation approaching retirement age presents a more significant deterioration in health status than those of previous generations. The question of how these trends will be reflected in terms of the burden of dependency at later ages remains open and should encourage increased monitoring of and prevention among this population in future years

Qualitative Methods Used to Generate Questionnaire Items
A systematic review of articles using qualitative methods to generate questionnaire items identified in MEDLINE and PsycINFO from 2000 to 2014 was carried out. Articles were analyzed for (a) year of publication and journal domain, (b) qualitative data collection methods, (c) method of data content analysis, (d) professional experts’ input in item generation, and (e) debriefing of the newly developed items. In total, 371 articles were included and…
Contrasted trends in health-related quality of life across gender, age categories and work status in France, 1995–2016
BACKGROUND: Interest in monitoring health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in general populations has increased in the past 20 years, reinforced by population ageing and repeated economic crises. This study aims to identify temporal trends in HRQoL in France between 1995 and 2016 and to assess disparities according to demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. METHODS: Data from repeated population-based cross-sectional surveys conducted in 19…

Using vital statistics to estimate the population-level impact of osteoporotic fractures on mortality based on death certificates, with an application to France (2000-2004)
Osteoporotic fractures have a significant impact on overall population mortality
Patterns of mortality and their changes in France (1968–99)
Background: Epidemiological transition theory is based on a succession of specific “patterns” of causes of death in human societies. However, the reality and consistency of patterns of causes of death in a population at a given moment has never been formally and statistically evaluated. Methods: Correlation analyses and principal component analysis were used to explore the correlation between age and sex cause-specific death rates and to identify…
A Population-Based Analytical Approach to Assessing Patterns, Determinants, and Outcomes of Health Care With Application to Ectopic Pregnancy
OBJECTIVE: Health care has variable features, specific determinants, and consequences on people's health that should be investigated in a population perspective. We present a population-based analytical approach to assessing patterns, determinants, and outcomes of health care. METHODS: The approach uses standard epidemiological methods for sample selection and analysis, as well as statistical methods concerning model fitting and validation strate…
An Epidemiologic Approach to Drug Prescribing Quality Assessment
OBJECTIVE: To assess drug prescribing by primary care physicians in France for various types of conditions, and to identify patterns and risk factors for poor prescribing quality. METHODS: The orders (n = 23,080) written for patients with five target diseases (acute nasopharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, essential hypertension, osteoarthrosis, and back and periarticular disorders), by primary care physicians (n = 1,049) were extracted from a nationw…
Risk of ectopic pregnancy and previous induced abortion
OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the role of prior history of induced abortion in subsequent ectopic pregnancies. METHODS: Data from two French case-control studies were used to examine the effect of induced abortion on ectopic pregnancy risk. Case patients (n = 570) were women admitted for ectopic pregnancy during the study period; controls (n = 1385) were women who delivered in the same center. RESULTS: The analysis among women with no previ…
Increased risk of ectopic pregnancy with maternal cigarette smoking
As part of a case-control study of ectopic pregnancy, we evaluated the potential etiologic role of cigarette smoking. Maternal cigarette smoking at the time of conception was associated with an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy with a dose-response relationship (adjusted odds ratios: 1.30 to 2.49). On the other hand, partner's smoking was not associated with ectopic pregnancy. The study provides a supplementary argument towards a causal effect …
