  • The Sound of Science

    Open Access•Lorien S Jordan, Paul G Sauberer et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2025•Referencias: 39

This paper contributes to ongoing conversations about the ethical and practical integration of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in qualitative health research by focusing on an often-overlooked aspect of research-dissemination. Given GAI's capacity to translate complex ideas into accessible summaries, simplify jargon, adapt to different comprehension levels, and enhance understanding through analogies, we explore its potential to support …

  • Reflexive disclosure in qualitative research publications in school psychology (2006–2021)

Open Access•Sujay Sabni, Jennifer R Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology in the Schools•2023

Qualitative researchers in school psychology are asked to reflect on how their identities, goals, and backgrounds influence their research studies, and to disclose these influences in their manuscripts. Given that reflexivity is a process and not an event, it can be challenging to decide what and how much about oneself, or selves, to disclose in a qualitative research manuscript. We, therefore, wanted to understand how school psychology researche…

  • Narrative Research

Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth et al.•OTHER•The Blackwell Encyclopedia of…•2019

Narrative research is a qualitative research methodology in the narrative inquiry tradition. Narrative inquiries elicit and analyzes stories in order to understand people, cultures, and societies. Narrative inquiry emerged from social constructionism and the narrative turn, which attuned narrative researchers to the importance of story and the belief that people's lives are forged through stories. Narrative inquiries can be categorized as narrati…

  • Curating Provocative Engagements with Assessment in Education

    Open Access•Vonzell Agosto, Jennifer R Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Research for Social…•2019•Referencias: 9

This study intervenes in commonsensical ways of exploring and understanding educational assessment within an audit culture of measurement. Drawing on sociomateriality and methodological approaches associated with material culture and narrative inquiry, we curated an exhibition based on interviews with 13 informants and the things they brought to convey their assessment experiences. Based on analysis of their narratives, we clustered our findings …

  • Work/Think/Play/Birth/Death/Terror/Qualitative/Research

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2018•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 6

Inspired by work/think/play in qualitative research, we centered the idea of "play" in a qualitative research project to explore what proceeding from the idea of work/think/play might look like and accomplish. We pursued play in an experimental qualitative inquiry over dinner one night at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association. Our article centers on one work/think/play inquiry three of us conducted. Through a pl…

  • Unpacking Assumptions in Research Synthesis

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•2017•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 28

Research syntheses in education, particularly meta-analyses and best-evidence syntheses, identify evidence-based practices by combining findings across studies whose constructs are similar enough to warrant comparison. Yet constructs come preloaded with social, historical, political, and cultural assumptions that anticipate how research problems are framed and solutions formulated. The information research syntheses provide is therefore incomplet…

  • Purposeful Entanglements

    Open Access•Travis M Marn, Travis Marn et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2017•Citada por: 20•Referencias: 26

In this article, we explore transformative interviewing through the lens of new materialism. Rather than viewing transformation through a humanist perspective that centralizes a transcendent self, we draw upon Barad's agential realism to reconsider transformation following the ontological turn. Thinking with agential realism, we engaged two interview studies, one on biracialism and one on masculinity, to demonstrate how the materiality of our int…

  • Driving the Paradigm

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2016•Citada por: 8•Referencias: 27

In this article, I explore my fantasy qualitative classroom, one that promotes "paradigm driving," rather than paradigm-driven research. I discuss how paradigm essentialism, ontologization, and idolization, although important to learning qualitative research, get in the way of creative, flexible, and ambiguous approaches to research design. I share strategies for disrupting these forces in the classroom. My exploration highlights the challenges o…

  • Participants' experiences of the qualitative interview

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2015•Citada por: 15•Referencias: 29

We used a multiple-case study to investigate participants' experiences in interviews from six qualitative studies that differed in interview orientations, designs, methods, participants, and topics. Roulston's (2010a, 2010b) interview orientation heuristic guided our 'paradigm-driven' analysis of participants' experiences. We found no differences in participants' articulation of benefits and risks by interview orientation. Participants' experienc…

  • Analyzing for critical resistance in narrative research

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research•2014•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 26

This paper details a narrative analysis strategy called critical resistance analysis (CRA). The aim of a CRA is to bring forward the kinds of subjects participants draw on when talking about themselves in narrative interviews and to make explicit how those subjects are resisted and desired. The CRA is distinguished from other narrative analyses of self in that it focuses on resistance in both its structural, anti-hegemonic and 'poststructural', s…

  • Toward an Inquiry of Discomfort

    Open Access•Jennifer R Wolgemuth, Jennifer Wolgemuth et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Inquiry•2006•Citada por: 22•Referencias: 9

This article argues for conducting emancipatory narrative research with the explicit intent of transforming participants' lives by opening up new subjective possibilities. Drawing from Megan Boler's pedagogy of discomfort and Gubrium and Holstein's active interviewing, a narrative research method called an inquiry of discomfort is proposed. An inquiry of discomfort emphasizes the proactive and transformative potential of research projects for bot…
