Assessing the degree of innovative readiness of systemic transformation of management in the context of transition to the sixth technological paradigm
The relevance of the study is due to the need for Russia to actively enter the new post-industrial technological paradigm of the sixth generation, which requires not only an infrastructural basis, but also a scientific and managerial potential. These circumstances, characterized by high rates of change, actualize the tasks of rethinking the value orientations of the management of industrial enterprises, especially in terms of technologies, method…
Raw Materials as an Ecological Factor in the Altai Paleolithic
The article summarizes the results of many years geological and petrographic studies of lithic artifacts and raw materials sources for its production in the main Paleolithic complexes in the Altai Mountains. The work is based on the representative archaeological collections of the multi-layer sites of Karama, Ust-Karakol, Kara-Bom and caves Denisova, Kaminnaya, Okladnikova, Chagyrskaya, Strashnaya, as well as other Paleolithic sites. The geologic…
Manifestations of Neotectonics in Karst Cavities
The article presents preliminary results of the study and characterization of the neotectonic processes manifestations in Denisova Cave, their influence on the formation and post-sedimentation changes of Pleistocene cave deposits. In Denisova Cave, traces of paleoearthquakes are examined in sections of sedimentary strata of the Main, East and South Chambers. The main types of earthquakeinduced deformations are described. A chronological assessmen…
Iron Ore from Mound No. 51 of the Ust-Tartas Burial Ground. Sargat Culture
Purpose. The article presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of iron ore fragments found during the explorations of mound no. 51 of the Ust-Tartas site (Vengerovsky distric, Novosibirsk region). The fragments presented shapeless rock debris with ferruginous oxides and a specific. Two fragments turned out to be slag. Three fragments come from burial no. 17 while others were found in the mound fill and the arable layer, obviously moved fro…
Petrography and Geology of Paleolithic Locations in the Northern Aral Sea Region and Mugodjary (Kazakhstan)
Use of quartzite rocks of the saksaul formation and its continental analogues as raw materials for the lithic industries called “siliceous”, “drain”, “quartzite” sandstones and siltstones, and “quartzites” in Western Kazakhstan has been known since the Middle Paleolithic up to the Early Iron Age. Their earliest use, in Acheulean, took place exactly in the Northern Aral Sea region and Mugodjary. The Paleolithic sites of the Northern Aral Sea regio…
Raw Material Base for Stone Industries of the Early Paleolithic in Southeastern Dagestan
This article presents the results of petrographic studies into collections of artifacts from the Acheulean complexes located in the Darvagchai Geoarchaeological District in Southeastern Dagestan. Throughout the entire Stone Age, raw stone was a crucial resource for subsistence of ancient humans. The lack of high-quality flint raw materials had been previously considered to be the main factor for concluding that this area was rarely visited by anc…
Shulbinka Paleolithic Site, Eastern Kazakhstan, Revisited

Early Upper Paleolithic Serpentine Ornaments from Ust-Karakol, Northwestern Altai
We describe the spatial context, technology, and possible function of serpentine-antigorite artifacts discovered at the Ust-Karakol Early Upper Paleolithic site in the Altai Mountains. The ornaments were made locally, with a single manufacturing process. They were fragmented either at the preform stage or at the stage of final trimming. There are no use-wear traces. The chaine operatoire included the preparation of blanks, biconical drilling, and…
Shulbinka Paleolithic Site, Eastern Kazakhstan, Revisited
This study revises the cultural and chronological attribution of the Shulbinka site, Eastern Kazakhstan, with reference to recent ideas of the Early Upper Paleolithic in northern Central Asia, including new sites dating to that stage (Tolbor-21, Ushbulak, etc.) and a representative series of absolute dates relevant to the site's chronology. We describe the discovery of the site and principal findings of excavations carried out more than 20 years …
Artificial Construction in the Upper Palaeolithic Layer 5.1 of Ushbulak Site
The article deals with the Late Upper Paleolithic complexes of the Ushbulak site and issues of the condition of specific culture-containing (with materials of different cultures or more than one cultural layer) deposits of this multilayered site. Undisturbed consistency of the culture-containing layer 5.1 is determined based on the analysis of the lithological-stratigraphic situation of the site and the results of refitting, indicating the absenc…
Leaf-Shaped Bifaces in the Initial Upper Paleolithic of Southern Siberia and Central Asia
An important component of the study of the complexes of the initial Upper Paleolithic (IUP) is the selection of marker tools – products with certain morphological properties and a specific chronological and territorial binding. One of the markers for the industries of the military-industrial conflict of Southern Siberia and the north of Central Asia are leaf-shaped and oval bifaces. These tools are flattened, have either a biconvex or a convex cr…

Lithic Raw Material Exploitation in the Sibiryachikha Facies, the Middle Paleolithic of Altai
The assemblages of the Sibiryachikha facies of the Middle Paleolithic stand out in terms of their production technology and typology among the other contemporary lithic assemblages of Gorny Altai. In this study, the role of raw materials in the development of characteristic features of the Okladnikov and Chagyrskaya caves' industries is determined. The proximity of sources of the raw material used has been established, and the main principles of …

Upper Paleolithic Rock Crystal Artifacts from the Southeastern Shore of Lake Bolshiye Allaki, the Southern Urals
Artifacts from the second cultural horizon of Bolshiye Allaki-2 are described, and data on the topography and stratigraphy of the site are examined. Results of technological, typological, petrographic, and faunal analyses along with radiocarbon dates suggest that this may be the earliest Upper Paleolithic ritual site in the Urals
Electron Probe Microanalysis of the Paste From Ceramics of the Far East
Results of electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) of ceramics from various sites in the Russian Far East, Sakhalin, and Japan are discussed. The proportions of the principal chemical elements (Ca–K–SiO2, K–Ca–Na, Mg–Fe–Ti) in the clay paste are shown by means of 3-D plots. New techniques for the computer-aided evaluation of sand grains and for processing images are proposed. Advantages and drawbacks of EPMA are assessed, and methodological guideline…
