  • The burden of acute respiratory infection in children under 5 attributable to economic inequality in low- and middle-income countries

Open Access•Hailu Zhu, Ke Huang et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2025

BACKGROUND: Quantifying the disease burden among children that could potentially be reduced through improvements in individual economic status and regional economic equality can greatly benefit policy making and resource allocation. However, such quantification has rarely been done. This study aimed to assess the inequality-related burden of acute respiratory infection (ARI) (the leading cause of child mortality in low- and middle-income countrie…

  • Estimating the burden of anaemia in women of reproductive age attributable to wildfire-sourced fine particulate matter

Open Access•An Xiaofei, Ning Kang et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2025

Climate change has been assumed as a key contributor to global undernutrition. One possible channel is that global warming increases air pollution exposure by causing more and more wildfires. This study examined the effect of wildfire-sourced particulate matter (PM) 2.5 exposure on anaemia in women of reproductive age (WRA), a dominating form of undernutrition across the low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We collected haemoglobin measureme…

  • Flood exposure contributes to under-five mortality in low- and middle-income countries

Open Access•Pengfei Li, Mingkun Tong et al.•ARTICLE•One Earth•2025

Flooding is one of the most prevalent natural disasters worldwide, which can have long-term indirect effects on child health. This study presents the first assessment of <5-year-old deaths (U5Ds) attributable to long-term flood exposure in 100 low- and middle-income countries, which was found to be dramatically higher than acute U5Ds attributable to all forces of nature. The vulnerable communities identified in this study can help plan relevant c…

  • Association between exposure to greenspace and ECG abnormalities in China

Open Access•Zhaoyang Pan, Man Cao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our study found that higher exposure to greenspace was associated with a decreased risk of ECG abnormality, especially in urban areas. Our findings suggested that monthly exposure to greenspace might be beneficial to cardiovascular health, and greenspace provision and maintenance could be considered an important public health intervention in urban planning

  • The Association Between Urbanization and Electrocardiogram Abnormalities in China

Open Access•Jiarun Mi, Xueyan Han et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Health•2024•Referencias: 2

The health effects of urbanization are controversial. The association between urbanization and reversible subclinical risks of cardiovascular diseases (e.g., electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities) has rarely been studied. This study aimed to assess the association between urbanization and ECG abnormalities in China based on the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS). We used changes in the satellite-measured impervious surfaces rate and n…

  • Variation in under-5 mortality attributable to anomalous precipitation during El Niño–Southern Oscillation cycles

Open Access•Tao Xue, Xue Tao et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2024

  • All-cause mortality attributable to long-term changes in mean temperature and diurnal temperature variation in China

Open Access•Siqi Ai, Hong Lu et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Previous studies have demonstrated an association between short-term exposure to ambient temperature and mortality. However, the long-term effects of elevated temperature and temperature variability on mortality have remained somewhat elusive in epidemiological studies. We conducted a comprehensive epidemiological study utilizing Chinese population census data from 2000 and 2010. Census-derived demographic and socioeconomic factors were paired wi…

  • Association of PM2.5 and Its Chemical Compositions with Metabolic Syndrome

Open Access•Qian Guo, Yuchen Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Studies on the association of PM 2.5 and its compositions with metabolic syndrome (MetS) were limited, and it was unclear which was the most hazardous composition. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between PM 2.5 and its compositions with MetS and identified the most hazardous composition. In this study, we included 13,418 adults over 45 years across 446 communities from 150 counties of 28 provinces in nationwide China in 201…

  • Radix Polygalae extract exerts antidepressant effects in behavioral despair mice and chronic restraint stress-induced rats probably by promoting autophagy and inhibiting neuroinflammation

Open Access•Yunfeng Zhou, Zhou Yunfeng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2021

  • How protective is China’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards on short-term PM 2.5 ? Findings from blood pressure measurements of 1 million adults

Open Access•Tianjia Guan, Tao Xue et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

Although short-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) air pollution has been shown to induce elevated blood pressure (BP), limited evidence is available regarding the association between ambient PM 2.5 and BP levels in nationwide China and how the association may change. This study sought to explore acute BP changes with exposure to PM 2.5 at levels below China’s current National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Based on a spati…

  • Quantifying the contribution of temperature anomaly to stroke risk in China

Open Access•Tao Xue, Xue Tao et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

Epidemiological studies have quantitatively linked adverse health outcomes, including stroke, to ambient temperature. However, such analyses cannot be applied to estimate disease burden attributable to climate change, because they assume a theoretical minimum risk reference based on an optimal temperature, which is a post hoc estimator that cannot be generalized to the unstudied locations. In this study, we used temperature anomaly (TA), an alter…

  • Targeted emission reductions from global super-polluting power plant units

    Open Access•Dan Tong, Qiang Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Sustainability•2018•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

  • Air quality improvements and health benefits from China’s clean air action since 2013

Open Access•Yixuan Zheng, Yuke Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2017

Aggressive emission control measures were taken by the Chinese government after the promulgation of the ‘Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan’ in 2013. Here we evaluated the air quality and health benefits associated with this stringent policy during 2013–2015 by using surface PM _2.5 concentrations estimated from a three-stage data fusion model and cause-specific integrated exposure–response functions. The population-weighted annual …

  • Brocade River Poems

Jeanne Larsen, Xue Tao et al.•BOOK•Brocade River Poems•1987

Xue Tao (A.D. 768-831) was well known as a poet in an age when all men of learning were poets--and almost all women were illiterate. As an entertainer and official government hostess, she met, and impressed, many of the most talented and powerful figures of her day. As a maker of beautiful paper and a Taoist churchwoman, she maintained a life of independence and aesthetic sensibility. As a writer, she crrated a body of work that is by turns deepl…
