Procedural justice and language barriers in a Swiss penitentiary
Perceptions of procedural justice (PJ) by prisoners have been found to be associated with a number of public health and safety outcomes. As language skills are an important prerequisite, PJ is at risk in countries with a high proportion of non-nationals in prisons, such as Switzerland. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between perceptions of PJ and language barriers among male prisoners ( N = 241) incarcerated in th…

Telecommunication technologies and mental health platfor…
Exploring the mental healthcare needs of Swiss pre-trial detainees

The very encouraging findings are that the core ideas and general principles have been assimilated due to the long-lasting collaboration between prof…
Are authoritarianism and militancy key characteristics of religious fundamentalism? A latent class analysis of an Egyptian Muslim sample
We investigated whether authoritarianism and militancy are essential characteristics of religious fundamentalism by exploring subtypes of religious fundamentalism in a sample of n = 152 Muslims from Egypt. We applied Hood and colleagues' intratextuality as a basic type of fundamentalism and selected a range of differentiating factors, such as closed-mindedness, militancy, and religious reflexivity, to characterize different subtypes. A survey wit…
Internet-based Self-Assessment after the Tsunami
ONSET was used by a large number of subjects who thought to be affected by the catastrophe in order to help them decide if they needed to see a mental health professional. Furthermore, men more frequently accessed the instrument than women, indicating that Internet-based testing facilitates reaching out to a different group of people than "ordinary" public mental health strategies
Exposure to the tsunami disaster, PTSD symptoms and increased substance use – an Internet based survey of male and female residents of Switzerland
The tsunami was associated with increased substance use. This study not only replicates earlier findings but also suggests for a gender specificity of post-traumatic substance use increase
The effects of economic deprivation on psychological well-being among the working population of Switzerland
The findings of this study contribute to our understanding of the potential psychological impact of material deprivation on working Swiss citizens. Such knowledge may aid in the design of community intervention programs to help reduce the individual and societal burdens of poverty in Switzerland
