Human Polymorphic Genes World Distribution . Arun K. Roychoudhury , Masatoshi Nei
Raymond Pearl memorial lecture, 1988
Within the last ten years complete sequencing of mitochondrial DNA in human and several other species, sequencing of nuclear and mitochondrial ribosomal and transfer RNAs in many species of bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals, and population studies of restriction enzyme polymorphism in the mtDNAs of insects, mammals and sixteen species of primates produced a wide range of new data and theory in molecular evolutionary genetics. These data suppor…
Evolution of mitochondrial DNA in monkeys, apes, and humans
The size of the primate single mitochondrial DNA molecular ring, the genetic technology for obtaining pure samples, the use of nucleotide sequence and restriction endonuclease analyses, and the relatively rapid rate of evolution make mtDNA variation useful for microevolutionary studies within and between species despite the informational content of the 37 genes being restricted to one locus because of complete linkage. The data on chimpanzees, go…

Infrastructures are material forms that allow for the possibility of exchange over space. They are the physical networks through which goods, ideas, waste, power, people, and finance are trafficked. In this article I trace the range of anthropological ...Read More

Assortative Mating
This paper lists marital correlations for 105 physical characteristics in 40 human population samples. Correlation coefficients in the range + 0.1 to 0.2 are most frequently observed for measurements of body size in Europeans and Americans of European descent, although coefficients in the range +0.2 to 0.3 are commonly found. Homogamy coefficients above 0.5 are rare, at least in European peoples. The degree of assortative mating with respect to p…

Primate Phylogeny, Ecology, and Social Behavior
In continuation of an earlier paper, results are presented from multivariate quantitative analyses with special reference to the relative importance of phylogenetic and environmental determinants of the relationships among nineteen demographic, ecological, and social-behavior variables observed in twenty-one primate species. The variables are group size; population density; day range; home range; percentages of adult males, adult females, juvenil…
A Statistical Analysis of Selected Aspects of Primate Demography, Ecology, and Social Behavior
Results are presented of multivariate quantitative analyses of the relationships among 19 demographic, ecological, and social variables observed in 29 populations representing 21 primate species. The variables are group size, population density, day range, home range, percentages of adult males, adult females, and juveniles, body weights of adult males and females, sex ratio, arboreality, biomass, available food, frequencies of aggression, social…
