  • Fristgebunden

Konstantin Chatziathanasiou, Michael W Müller et al.•BOOK•Fristgebunden•2026

    Konstantin Chatziathanasiou, Martin Sternberg•ARTICLE•JuristenZeitung•2024

Deutschlan…

  • Beware the Lure of Narratives

    Open Access•Konstantin Chatziathanasiou•ARTICLE•German Law Journal•2022

The “hungry judge” effect, as presented by a famous study, is a common point of reference to underline human bias in judicial decision-making. This is particularly pronounced in the literature on “artificial intelligence” (AI) in law. Here, the effect is invoked to counter concerns about bias in automated decision-aids and to motivate their use. However, the validity of the “hungry judge” effect is doubtful. In our context, this is problematic fo…

  • Does the Threat of Overthrow Discipline the Elites? Evidence from a Laboratory Experiment

Open Access•Konstantin Chatziathanasiou, Svenja Hippel et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Legal Studies•2022

The threat of revolution disciplines the elites, inducing them to strategically share some of their wealth to prevent social unrest. This behavioral conjecture is prominently used to explain franchise extension and welfare-state expansion. We test this conjecture in a controlled laboratory experiment. We model a society whose members can produce wealth by coordinating conflicting interests. Coordination is facilitated through a status ranking. Co…

  • Der hungrige, ein härterer Richter? Zur heiklen Rezeption einer vielzitierten Studie

    Konstantin Chatziathanasiou•ARTICLE•JuristenZeitung•2019

The 4th edition of the first volume of this work provides an update of the commentary on the preamble and articles 1 to 19 in case law and literature. The structure of the book has been retained and its content supplemented by more recent developments, such as the implications of Europeanisation and digitalisation as well as the Corona pandemic. As of the 4th edition, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf has taken over the editorship of the commentary.
