    Open Access•Yorgos Facorellis, John E Coleman•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2012•Referencias: 7

Archaeological investigations at Halai, a small city-state on the sea coast of East Lokris in Greece, have been carried out since 1986 by the Cornell Halai and East Lokris Project (CHELP). The town's acropolis, first inhabited in the Neolithic period, was in Greco-Roman times a political and cultural center controlling and serving a considerable territory. Radiocarbon dating of charred material unearthed from Neolithic deposits indicate that the …

When the site of Elean Pylos was threatened by the construction of a dam in 1968, a team from the University of Colorado moved in to salvage as much information as possible about the ancient town before it was submerged. This report is divided chronologically: Middle Helladic, Geometric, Archaic, Classical, Roman, Byzantine and Frankish. Each chapter consists of a brief description of the remains in the field, followed by a catalogue of the finds…

    John E Coleman•ARTICLE•American Journal of Archaeology•1985•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 5

Recent discoveries have shed new light on the curious objects known as "frying pans," whose real purpose is disputed. Most are of terracotta, but a few examples are now known of stone and there are also two of bronze from Alaca Hüyük. They may be divided into several groups according to the type of handle (i.e., forked, barred, rectangular and "bracket"). "Frying pans" from the Cycladic islands can often be distinguished from those found on the m…
