Open Access•Ruth Faleolo, Edmond Fehoko et al.•ARTICLE•Art/Research International A…•2024

COVID-19 stories, especially from Aotearoa New Zealand as one of the leading nations ‘winning’ over the virus will be important historical documentation. The ‘team of 5 million’ is writing its narratives of life with/out COVID-19 – stories of ‘living in bubbles’, of ‘being kind’ and ‘being in it together.’ These are narratives of success which need to be examined alongside the narratives that have been absent from public national discourse but co…

Edmond Fehoko, Edmond S Fehoko•ARTICLE•Journal of the Polynesian Society•2021

Until recently there has been little research on gambling in Tongan communities. While it is not clear when and how games with elements of gambling were introduced to Tonga, the longstanding presence of competitive gaming in Tonga is evident. This paper explores traditional games that were played by noble chiefs, like sika and lafo, and the introduction of Western games by missionaries, such as card games and darts. These include Tongan people’s …
