Efficiency in university-industry collaboration
We examine the determinants of university involvement in knowledge transfer activities, focusing on the value of external services provided by higher education institutions. Data come from 164 universities in the UK and are drawn from the HE Business and Community Interaction Survey (HE-BCI), with a variety of university- and region- specific explanatory variables grafted onto the data from other official sources. The Incidence of and Returns to ‘Overeducation’
PIAAC data are used to evaluate the extent of overeducation in G7 countries. Incidence of overeducation is seen to vary systematically with a number of demographic characteristics. The impact of overeducation on remuneration is then estimated using quantile regression. Revenue efficiency in higher education institutions under imperfect competition
A number of studies have considered the evaluation of efficiency in higher education institutions. In this paper, we focus on the issue of revenue efficiency, in particular ascertaining the extent to which, given output prices, producers choose the revenue maximising vector of outputs. An analysis of costs in institutions of higher education in England
Cost functions are estimated, using random effects and stochastic frontier methods, for English higher education institutions. The article advances on existing literature by employing finer disaggregation by subject, institution type and location, and by introducing consideration of quality effects. Regional Wage Inflation and Unemployment Dynamics in Great Britain
This paper develops a two-equation model of the regional labor market in which wage inflation and unemployment rates are jointly endogenous variables. The model is tested on annual data for the ten standard regions of Great Britain over the 1971-85 period. This article analyses data obtained from the National Survey of 1980 Graduates and Diplomates which was undertaken in 1986. The purpose is to compare the work histories of white and ethnic minority graduates in relation to their family background and educational experience.
