Truth, Love and Immortality
The Religion of Thomas Hobbes
In G. K. Chesterton's story The Doom of the Darnaways , Lord Darnaway put on the spines of dummy books in his library such empty designations as The Snakes of Ireland and The Religion of Frederick the Great : I too might appear to have chosen a non-subject for this paper. Form and Existence
In this paper I shall discuss what Aquinas meant by his term esse, or actus essendi, 'act of existing'. Another synonym that he uses—quo aliquid est, 'that by which a thing is (or: exists)'—suggests a convenient division of the subject: we can first discuss Aquinas' philosophical use of quo, 'that by which', and then consider which sense of est, which sort of existential proposition, may be relevant to Aquinas' doctrine of esse. But we shall see …

Plato's Euthyphro, Apology, and Crito Critical Essays
Plato's Euthyrphro, Apology, andCrito portray Socrates' words and deeds during his trial for disbelieving in the Gods of Athens and corrupting the Athenian youth, and constitute a defense of the man Socrates and of his way of life, the philosophic life. The twelve essays in the volume, written by leading classical philosophers, investigate various aspects of these works of Plato, including the significance of Plato's characters, Socrates's revolu…
