Present high levels of bicycle use in the Netherlands, which are unique for a Western country, can be attributed to their remarkable history of cycling for transport. Even so, the Dutch have no publicly-funded museum that records this part of the national heritage. Making a case for the importance of public presentation of Dutch cycling history, this paper starts with a historical explanation for the absence of the bicycle from Dutch heritage conservation. An analysis of how cycling history is represented in transport and technology museums elsewhere is presented, looking at public collections abroad. Finally, an alternative way of presenting cycling history that is visually attractive and historically more up to date than in many museums of transport and technology is suggested
