The Influence of Cultural Identification on Family Behavior

This study considered the influence of cultural identification on family behavior, with the aim of contributing to concepts for family diagnosis. Three directional hypotheses predicted association between intensity of ties to the ethnic culture and spouse relationship; the relationship of spouses to kin; and how emotional problems are defined. The design involved a comparison of two groups of couples, one with strong and one with weak ties to the Greek culture. Subjects were placed in a study group on the basis of a nationality attachment-detachment scale. A semistruc- tured interview was administered.
