One Decade Later

During the past ten years, Asian American scholars have employed concepts around local and global, transnational, and diaspora with varying degrees of clarity and urgency. In the wake of the Gulf War and the war in Afghanistan, the continuing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, and between Indians and Pakistanis, we need to better explain the linkages between Asians in the Americas and the rest of the world in two ways:1. How do Asians in the Americas fit in with a multipolar global power system made up of national/military governments and regimes, national technology, corporations, and migrant labor-together with ethnic nationalism and underdevelopment?2. What positions should Asians in the Americas take-in forums of political action, of media action, of raising educational consciousness, and of reconfiguring modes of work, economics, or culture
