In this essay I briefly review six books that could be used as texts in teaching complex organizations. I began my quest for appropriate textbooks to review by examining a draft of Thomas Drabek's article, the Sociology of Complex Organizations, which also appears in this issue of Teaching Sociology. He identified six texts as excellent, but two of them were considerably dated (1979, 1981) and more recent editions were not available. In addition
