In its more than 100 years of existence, sociology in Russia and in the Soviet Union has confronted a range of political barriers to its development, and has had difficulty in becoming integrated into the international sociological enterprise. In spite of this, the commitment of a large number of courageous researchers has enabled it to achieve remarkable results
