Research Article| January 01 2019 Building the American Deportation Regime: Governmental Labor and the Infrastructure of Forced Removal in the Early Twentieth Century Ethan Blue Ethan Blue Ethan Blue, Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Western Australia, is the author of Doing Time in the Depression: Everyday Life in Texas and California Prisons (2012) and co-author of Engineering and War: Militarism, Ethics, Institutions, Alternatives (2013). His work has appeared in Pacific Historical Review, Journal of Social History, Radical History Review, National Identities, and Law, Culture and the Humanities, among other venues. His research focuses on critical prison studies, broadly conceived, in settler- colonial societies. He is currently writing a history of US deportation in the early twentieth century and the origins of American mass removal.
