In the 1970s, in many parts of the world, Christians committed to social justice became actively involved in socialist movements. They joined socialist parties and organizations and supported the socialist orientation gaining ground in labour unions and other social organizations. These Christians created their own institutional networks. They did this not to set up parallel political structures, but rather to support one another, to reflect on their new experiences and to relate their socialist commitment to the meaning of the Christian message
