While bisexual women may bring issues to psychotherapy that are similar to those of other women, and they share many common experiences with lesbians, there is also considerable diversity within this population. In addition, bisexual women face special challenges due to the absence of visibility and validation of bisexuality, the social pressure to dichotomize sexual identity, and biphobia. Providing therapy for bisexual women entails assessment of their stage of identity development and awareness of the challenges that may result in distress. Case examples are provided, as well as recommendations for therapists working with bisexual women
