Evaluating the popularity and quantity of US pornography studios

This article attempts to evaluate both the popularity and the quantity of currently existing US pornography production studios through the use of DVD sales ranking data from two separate websites (adultdvdempire and cduniverse) and other measures. The article also considers how DVD pornography employs product branding techniques both in general terms and by considering a specific example of one studio in detail: Wicked Pictures, judged here to be the number one most popular studio (as gauged by sales rankings of the top 100/200 titles from the two websites mentioned). In the second part of the article, recent monopolistic changes to the structure of the US pornography industry are considered in relation to the rise of aggregator tube sites such as Pornhub and YouPorn, the function of the San Fernando Valley in California as a pornography industrial district, and the role of both MindGeek and the MetArt Network as umbrella company groupings in these recent developments
