This study explores the psychological impact of a flood disaster resulting from a dam break on February 26, 1972, in an area called Buffalo Creek situated in Logan County, West Virginia The tragedy caused the deaths of 118 people and 7 are still missing. In addition, numerous communities were virtually obliterated. Contained herein are some case studies of the emotional manifestation of the crisis, some therapeutic interventions, and some suggestions that appear powerful to ameliorate or to prevent the emotional trauma generated by disasters that destroy populated areas
