Feminist Theologies in Latin America

Feminist theologies arising in the Latin American context have generally developed in relation to the liberation theologies of their regions. Latin American liberation theology was pioneered by priest-theologians, such as Peruvian Gustavo Gutierrez1, in the mid-1960s in response to the crisis of poverty and revolutionary violence in their regions, and the failure of the capitalist developmental model promulgated by North American and Western European corporations and governments to promote social justice
