L'A. developpe deux aspects du role de Saint Jean d'Avila (1499-1569) dans l'elaboration de la theorie et de la pratique educatives catholiques de la Contre-Reforme. Dans un premier temps, d'Avila a converti certains elements de la pensee humaniste en une strategie educative souple qui caracterisait sa predication et ses activites d'enseignement. En second lieu, son approche du travail missionnaire et educatif s'est progressivement repandue et institutionnalisee a travers des structures de l'Eglise post-tridentine: le developpement du programme educatif des jesuites, les decrets du Concile de Trente
