This study examines how different forms of violence shape and structure the migration processes of Afro-Colombian women from the Colombian Pacific and their families to northern Chile, as well as the resistance practices they develop in response. The research follows a qualitative design carried out in Antofagasta (Chile) and Buenaventura (Colombia), with the participation of 25 Afro-Colombian women. Data were gathered through multiple methods, including life histories, semi-structured interviews, observation, field notes, and photographic records. The findings show that these migration trajectories are closely tied to experiences of gender-based violence and racism in Colombia. These experiences cannot be explained solely by the country’s internal armed conflict, but must also be understood in relation to violence occurring within family environments and intimate relationships. Migration does not bring an end to these forms of violence; rather, they continue and are deeply experienced in connection with transnational care responsibilities and family reunification after arrival in the destination country. Despite these conditions, the women engage in forms of resistance by building close friendships with other Chilean and Colombian women, which help them navigate a range of challenges, particularly during the early stages of migration. Based on these findings, the study suggests the need to advance analytical approaches that incorporate both gender-based violence and the Colombian internal armed conflict as key frameworks for understanding these migration processes
