When you are out there selling such complicated narratives, normal scientific testability just isn't an issue: how many of your colleagues or others buy your story depends principally on how convincing or forceful a storyteller you are-and how willing your audience is to believe the kind of thing you are saying, which brings us back to the importance of people's expectations.
