Reportedly Methone of Pieria was founded by the Eretrians. The few dialect features documented in the graffiti and dipinti on the potsherds from the so-called cellar are fully compatible with a Euboean vernacular. Their script looks perfectly Eretrian. At first sight, the spelling ΣΧΕΝΙ for ΧΣΕΝΙ seems to attest to the use of an Attic-like 'light blue' script (Χσενι = Ξενι). In fact, it is best accounted for as an instance of 'red' xi (X) + a redundant sigma (Ξσενι)
