Proposes that in people who have lacked “good enough parenting,” a sense of utter reliability may be missing. Utilizes a specific process which is based upon the person's own resources to achieve the precise incorporation of the missing parenting function. The approach is considered particularly applicable to narcissistic disorders with structural defects described by Kohut (1977). It has also been found useful with the functioning “treatment veteran” who still experiences taking care of self as too much effort because “something is missing.” Two case examples are included.
