Freud's position on transference is critiqued and alternative perspectives are offered. Horney, Sullivan, Boss, May, Kelly, Rogers, Boszormenyi-Nagy, Bowen, and Laing have expanded the analysis of transference. Parallels and differences between transactional analysis and the ideas presented by these theorists are explored. Berne's theory on transference is developed beyond reference to crossed transactions and script drama to include group imagoes, structural and relationship analyses, and multigenerational contexts
