Psychogenetics in Redecision Therapy

Like most traditional counselors, redecision transactional analysis therapists assume that difficulties in couple relationships stem from the projection of unresolved parentchild relationship difficulties from childhood onto adult partners. A new approach uses the Psychogenetic Profile to investigate the troubled couple relationship between the clients' parents in childhood, alerting redecision and transactional analysis therapists to the amazing repetitions in transgenerational couple scripts. Corrective reimprinting occurs as clients role play their childhood parents resolving these historical couple issues with each other, issues that had long ago been introjected by example into the clients' Parent ego states during childhood. Left untreated, the unconscious “Inner Couple Imprint” will become the client's only couple imprint for his or her own relationships later in adulthood. This article introduces regeneration and shows how the psychogenetic system integrated into redecision therapy creates the next generation of couples work. A case example is provided to illustrate the process
