Two studies were conducted using the subjects as co-investigators to describe the frequency of emotional states and the psychological settings associated with four specific emotions: anger, anxiety, depression and happiness. In the first study 73 subjects reported the most prominent and recent emotions they had experienced. The most frequent emotions were happiness, depression, anxiety and anger. Several differences between the sexes in their emotional experiences were noted. In the second study, 32 women kept records of their experiences of anger, anxiety, happiness and depression for a period of three weeks. Then in an interview subjects described for each emotion the setting and their actions before, during and after the emotion. Several differences were noted between the four emotional states.
