This critique points out that the six steps that Novellino (2011) presents in his article are not unique to a psychoanalytic transactional analysis. Most clinical transactional analysts have similar intentions in the initial interview, even though they might use different language to describe what they are doing. Furthermore, the author suggests that the dichotomy Novellino presents between cognitive-behavioral transactional analysis and psychodynamic transactional analysis is a false one in the clinical field, especially with regard to redecision therapy
