War-themed graphic narratives offer young readers a way to engage with traumatic events from a safe distance, potentially shaping their ethical perspectives and fostering empathy. However, the challenge of effectively conveying the complexities of war trauma to children remains significant. This article examines how the graphic anthology Война vs Детство ( Voyna vs detstvo, translated as ‘war vs childhood’) by Yuliya Brykova and Kristina Kretova addresses this issue by presenting wartime experiences through the testimonies of young witnesses from opposing sides of modern conflicts, utilising verbal-visual form. By deconstructing traditional binaries of ‘allies’ and ‘enemies’, it offers a unique approach to introducing complex traumatic material to a younger audience
