This is a report on an action anthropology engagement which is successful in the evaluation of the host population. Southern Cheyenne traditional leadership requested the anthropologist's presence. His position as nondirective counsellor and his role in the emerging process were interpreted by the Cheyenne according to Cheyenne tradition. It is suggested that action anthropology requires of the anthropologist total commitment to the goals and interpretations of the genuine representatives of the host population
