This essay recovers and engages in dialogue with the text, published in 1985, by Miguel Pressburger, entitled The Hardships and Misadventures of Liberalism, which takes stock of the situation of agrarian reform in Brazil based on a critical analysis of the 1964 Land Statute. 40 years after Pressburger’s reflection and 60 years after the approval of the Land Statute, the continuity of contradictions and consensuses that revolve around Brazilian law, in its agrarian aspect, is demonstrated, notably the metamorphosis of the right to private property into a constitutionalized fundamental right
