The article was based on the analysis of texts devoted to fashion, published in the weekly “Zwierciadło” in the years 1957–1989. It shows the relationships and dependencies between fashion and the social and economic conditions of the country. It also presents Polish fashion against the background of the fashion of Western designers of the analyzed period
