Camulodunum lies beneath modern Colchester in Essex, 80 km northeast of London, in what was the territory of the Trinovantes. Roman occupation began in the 40s ce , first with a legionary fortress and then a colony. It possessed a temple of Claudius and was a focal point of the Boudican revolt.
