Children of the same family must observe towards one another various special obligations, the nature of which depends upon their respective age and sex. The eldest brother has an honoured place and the principal say in family affairs after his father, and when the latter is away takes his place and must be treated with the respect due to the head of the family. The obligations between brothers and sisters are extended, as the children grow older and marry, towards their respective families. Paternal relatives are preferential partners in most co-operative activities; they also give one another legal assistance, and contribute towards one another&s;s bogadi . If all the children, in either a monogamous or a polygamous family, are still minors, their late father&s;s younger brother normally becomes the guardian. If both parents are dead, the younger children are looked after by the wife of the eldest, son, if he is already married, or else by one of their married sisters.
